RIP BARRY KINSEY

We're deeply saddened to learn of the death of former chair, 1st XI captain and general club stalwart Barry Kinsey. Baz was a huge presence at the club in the 1970s and 1980s, alongside brother Paul. Renowned for his deadpan comic style - "he's wearing black pumps!" - Baz was a guiding figure to many younger players coming through, and also worked hard behind the scenes to keep the club going in difficult times. His infamous "run for three!" call will be fondly remembered by many of our stalwarts, and his captaincy, while conservative, was always fair.

The Kinsey clan was a constant factor at the club, with brother Paul and son and nephew Jon and Jack also turning out, in some cases all four together which certainly kept everyone on their toes. Perhaps the best memory this writer has of Barry is the occasion at High View when he attempted to evade a Graham Hannaford off drive which was hit like a tracer bullet, arrowed in on Baz at long off, curved mysteriously to follow his attempt to get out of the way and resorted in our unfortunate hero falling halfway down the hill surrounding the ground!

Alongside recently-departed Keith Duckworth and club legend Cyril Fletcher, Baz was a committee mainstay and served as chairman in the late 1980s. His legacy at the club is shown in some of the team photos you'll see in the bar and lounge areas.

RIP Baz
