JEN AND SHEILA STAR AS WOMEN BLITZ VERNON CARUS

It was another weekend of mixed results at Crompton Meadows. The 1sts were again missing key players but there was no excuse for the shocking batting performance which resulted in a thumping 130 run defeat inflicted by Rochdale Catholic Club. Totts restricted the visitors to a manageable 183-7, based around an unbeaten 62 in 45 overs from Mulkeen Snr and an enterprising 45 from Hussain. Asif was again the pick of the bowlers, taking 6 of the 7 wickets to fall and bowling throughout the innings to record 6-72. The new look top order was cut to ribbons in quick time, with Mo and Houldsworth removing the top 5 for a combined 8 runs. With skipper Si choosing to bat at 11, that was pretty much that, and the innings capitulated to 53 all out, Si top scoring with 18 not out. Houldsworth took 6-34 and Mo 4-19 as the visitors required just the two bowlers to complete a simple victory.

There were much happier scenes on Sunday as the girls took on Vernon Carus on the sponsors day. With bright sunshine (finally!!) throughout, the girls put on a top show. Having batted first, we rattled up a decent total of 176, with Meg again the star performer, notching her second half century in Totts colours and finishing on 76. There were useful contributions from Ceebs and Anjalie Singh at the top of the order and from Ellie Davey late on. With Lancs skipper Jasmine unavailable, the bowling responsibility fell to the evergreen Jen Laycock, who took a remarkable 5-7 from 8 overs as the Carus girls were dismissed for 62. Good backup was offered by Charlotte who took a couple of wickets, and there were enthusiastic performances from all of the side, especially some of the youngsters.

Thanks to our team sponsors, Northern Star IFA, who had a fabulous day in the sunshine watching our team. Northern Star IFA sponsored the women's cricket kit and also yesterday's game, inviting 25 guests to enjoy the cricket and a wonderful buffet provided by Eclectic from Ramsbottom.
