2NDS MARCH ON AS MOZZER BLITZES 86

7th Placed Tottington St Johns 2nd XI went into the game with 5th placed Edgworth 3rds high in confidence following 2 convincing 5 point wins at Blakeley and Darcy Lever.

Tottington were led by Rob ‘Superman’ Holt in the absence of Mike Watts & Mike Ainscoe. The day started no differently to normal with Rob losing the toss, but suprisingly Edgworth put Totty into bat on a batsmans' wicket on a sunny day!

Totty got off to a good start with openers Daniel Moriarty and Mick Jones putting on 68 before Mick Jones got bowled on 20. In came Ryan Stoney and it wasn't long after Dan Moriarty got to 50 with a lovely shot back past the bowler for 4. Ryan Stoney hit a couple of nice boundaries before Daniel Moriarty raced away to 86 despatching the ball to all parts, before being caught and bowled with a superb catch from the bowler for his best knock for TSJ.

Ryan Stoney then picked up where Dan left off before been unluckily caught on 48. Andy Walker hit a lovely 4 but failed to build on that before been bowled on 7. Captain Rob Holt chipped in with a handy 14 before Stu Battigan came in and hit a quick fire 42 to lead TSJ to a score of over 200! Stu was eventually bowled on 42. Leigh Dickinson & Sale Shucker came in but were unable to trouble the scorers been given out for a duck for LBW and bowled respectively, Ryan Marsh got 9 not out to lead TSJ to 245-8 with Mark Connor 1 not out at the other end.

Edgworth Started their innings brightly with a first wicket stand of 118 before Ryan Stoney got the breakthru bowling Critchley on 62; unfortunately for Totty the 2nd wicket partnership lasted another 45 runs leaving Edgworth in a very promising position of 163-2! With wickets in the shed Edgworth had licence to have a go as time was running out, Edgworth's number 3 came in and hit 43 before being caught and bowled by Sale Shucker. After getting past the first 3 Edgworth batsmen Edgworth collapsed going from 183-3 to 206ao thanks to 3 wickets from Rob Holt and 5 wickets for Sail! Sail wrapped the game up with a hat trick which included 2 stumpings and a bowled!

End of Innings Edgworth III 205 All out

Result: Tottington St Johns win by 40 runs

Today was a great all round performance seeing TSJ 2nds hit their biggest score for as long as I can remember and seeing some good knocks from Dan Moriarty, Stu Battigan and Ryan Stoney as well as seeing new recruit Sale Shucker take his first 5fer on his home debut - promising signs for the rest of the season.
