CUP EXIT IN THE RAIN ENDS MIXED WEEKEND

For the first time since 2007, Tottington St Johns' name will now adorn the Calverley Cup after a disappointing 4-1 bowlout defeat against Fothergill and Harvey at rain sodden Crompton Meadows. With no chance at all of play, Totts key men all missed the stumps, with only Ashley on target. A fantastic curry provided by Asif and Samina was lovely, but little consolation for the team bidding for a fourth straight cup success.

Fortunately the 1sts fared better on Saturday, with a relatively untroubled 4 wicket victory against Robinsons. After the home side got off to a rapid start, reaching 54-1 from just 10 overs, Russ and Marshy put on the brakes, and with Bird, Nick Marsh, Nelly and Doc all chipping in with a couple of wickets, Robbies were dismissed for 113; an innings highlight was provided by Skunners who ran out one player despite having "just one wicket, ONE wicket" to aim at. There was also the fantastic (in retrospect) moment of Marshy getting no-balled for having failed to inform umpire Billy Fish of a bowling change! Ashley smashed a quick 44 when Totts batted, and with Skunners and Bird weighing in with solid 20s, we eased to victory with 20 overs to spare.

The 2nds meanwhile went down to a 1 wicket defeat in a very tense affair against Bury. After Rob Holt (48) and Andy Walker had guided the team past 150, the side managed to get 9 Bury wickets down and just couldn't finish them off. Another really good effort though for the rapidly improving side.
