TRIO OF WINS AS SENIORS MARCH ON

The senior sides all marched on this weekend with sizeable wins for the 1sts and women in particular; the 2s also never looked likely to lose their game.

The 1sts travelled to Woodbank for what was always likely to be a lively affair - much of the expected pre-match banter was curtailed in the wake of the Manchester tragedy but returning players Ry and Bret were keen to impress, and they certainly delivered. The Bankers batted first and were soon in some disarray at 7-4 with Ry Wilkes running riot. At 25-6, a complete calamity looked on the cards, but some dogged middle order resistance helped get the home side to 62. Ry ended with 5-21, while Si and Ry Marsh shared the remaining 5 wickets.

The target was never likely to prove much of a challenge, and once Bret got going it was over quickly. Kieran and Bret launched us to 64-0 in just 8 overs to secure maximum points and keep the 1sts top of the table. The evening hospitality was top notch, with charity money raised and a good night had by all.

Back at the Meadows, the 2s got off to a flier, with Dee continuing her excellent recent form, before getting herself out for 40 from just 38 balls. Mark Parky and Dasher also got into the 20s before getting out and we had a pretty good platform to build on, in front of a growing crowd of old boys!

The middle of the innings was anchored by Sail, and despite a few wickets falling rapidly, the old hand guided us to a competitive total of 187-7, ending on a slightly chancy 53 not out. This looked to be a decent total on a pitch that was starting to misbehave a little.

Hindley got off to a steady start, though a flurry of wickets fell around the 30 mark. Munchi helped himself to 47 off just 54 balls, but wickets fell all around the opener. The returning Nelly B helped himself to 4-29, while there were solid performances from Matty Bradshaw and Sail in particular. Katie grabbed a wicket and Roshi finished the innings by finally ending Munchi's resistance in the 29th over to leave the visitors 131 all out, and the 2nds up to 5th place.

Sunday was the one disappointing day of the weekend as the 2s, featuring 6 changes, ran up against an in-form Roe Green. Four batsmen just about crept into double figures but a total of just 66 all out in 39 overs was a disappointing effort, with Bowers taking a hat-trick amidst his 5 wickets for 3 runs in just 2.1 overs!

Early wickets were needed, and despite Farhan's 2 wickets the run rate was proving the decider; the home side raced to 67-3 in less than 11 overs to complete a comprehensive win and eliminate the 2s from the cup.

Monday saw the girls travel to Lowerhouse CC for a revised 20 over game with Tornados CC. Dee's side once again showed their strength by keeping the inexperienced Tornados to just 57-6 in their allotted overs with Eve and Sophie taking wickets, before knocking the target off quickly. Eve and Ruth were the main run scorers in a dominant display.
