METAMORPHOSIS OF CROMPTON MEADOWS

Over the past 14 months a significant amount of work has taken place at Crompton Meadows, as the ground has transformed from the old familiar bumpy "characterful" playing surface into a modern, levelled cricketing venue. An enormous amount of work went on behind the scenes to secure a sizeable grant for much of the project, while fundraising and a lot of hard graft by the committee has made it possible.

From the boggy, uneven bowl of mid 2017 to the level surface that awaits the players ahead of the 2019 season, the work has completely transformed the ground and made Crompton Meadows' playing arena a venue befitting the much-enhanced pavilion and other facilities that preceded it. There remains plenty to do, not least the erection of a fence on the lodge side of the ground, and much remedial and tidying work, but the results are already impressive. Here's to a "once in a lifetime" project, and hats off to everyone who has contributed to its success.
