TRIPLE DEFEAT AS SEASON RESUMES

It was a real weekend of woe as all 3 senior sides went down to defeat. After last week's fantastic Tottington's Big Day Out event, the Meadows was deserted on Saturday as the 1sts travelled to suprise title contenders Ashton. Despite a solid start from Nick, who top scored with 40, and KC (23), the innings petered out, with Rennie taking 5 wickets as we ended on 152 all out. Rick managed a 20 as well but there were too may starts that weren't converted to big scores. The bowling was then subjected to some pain, only Asif managing to keep the run rate down as the home side blazed to a 7 wicket victory with 17 overs to spare.

The 2nds worrying form slump also continued. After several weeks leading Division 3, a trio of defeats has left them playing catch up again. On Sunday they travelled to Greenmount for the annual "Battle of the Lines", a contest which may see the 1sts take up the challenge next year against Greenmount's 2s? Home man Dave Willetts was the star of the show as Greenmount posted a respectable 180 all out. Totts batting has been poor in recent weeks, and this continued with the visitors restricted to 144-9, picking up a point and denying fellow contenders Greenmount the full points.

Watty's recap: Lost toss. Greenmount 50-5. Partnership of almost 100. 143-6. All out 180. Me 3, Sail 2, Brooky 2, Farhan 4 I think. (possibly not as that makes 11 wickets - Ed). Batting was dire to start. Brooky suicidally ran Ryan out. Me and brooky put 50 odd on. I got fired for 28 I think. Hayesy was a cut above. Brooky had his stumps spread for 35. Boris arrived. Hayesy out. Innings grinds to halt, belligerent batting from Boris and Mick Jones to see us home for a point. Three great catches from brooky in the deep. He dropped the easiest one.

However the spanking of the weekend was left for the women's side. New Farnley rattled up over 230 before skittling the Totts girls for just 61 - a total that was boosted following an initial slump to 19-5. It's a rare setback for our girls, but they did pick up 6 bonus points (though we're not entirely sure what for at this stage - effort? ground looking fab? best tweeting ever?)

Next week sees the 2s facing more stiff challenges while the 1sts travel to leaders Irlam. No rest for the wicked!
