SENIOR SIDES BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Finally some good news for the firsts this weekend as they avenged an early season defeat to Failsworth by beating the visitors comfortably on Saturday. Totts innings was anchored by Nick Marsh who made a solid 61, although a team total of just over 150 looked slightly light. However despite some wayward early bowling, the experienced duo of Bird and Nelly put the brakes on and took vital wickets to keep the visitors in check. Mace ended up around 40 short of the Totts total.

The 2s had a very contrasting weekend. Saturday saw the team inserted on a damp wicket at Roe Green and make a poor fist of things, totalling just 81. Once again our fragile batting let us down, and despite a gallant effort in the field, it wasn't enough, the home side running out winners by 6 wickets. Sunday's trip to Farnworth Social Circle saw a stronger side bring home 5 points. After an early collapase to 35-3, Ry Marsh - who batted very responsibly for a well made 56 - and Doc P with a breezy 27, turned the game round, putting on 75 in just under 10 overs. However the tail then fell apart, as wickets fell for 15 runs. Fortunately the final pair added a few and we ended up on 142. Doc then set about dismantling the home side's top order, taking 5 quick wickets and ending with 6-17 as the home side were blown away for 72, a total bolstered by some late hitting. Nick Marsh's opening over pretty much summed up the home side's batting - 2 wickets and 2 6's coming from that 6 balls! Nick ended with 3 and young Brooky, who took a lot of ribbing, picked up the other wicket and managed to nearly decapitate the number 10 with a ball that took off from nowhere.

With other favourable results, the 2s remain in a strong position at the head of Division 3 - could a second straight title be looming?
