1STS MARCH ON; 2S GO DOWN TO FOTHERGILLS

It may have taken a few weeks but the 1sts now seem to have found their feet in the GMCL, with another impressive win this past weekend. On a baking hot day at the Meadows, batting first was a welcome tonic, but unfortunately Worsely's opening bowler Whittaker had other ideas, dismissing Nick, GT and KC with just 31 on the board. Russ and Rick set about rebuilding the innings and had taken the score to 76 before Bird was out for a punchy 29. Watty was adjudged LBW for a duck, courtesy of stand-in umpire Rowdy (bet that went down well), and then it was up to the late-arriving Marshy, batting down the order, to help bolster the innings. Rick departed for 38 and then it was left to the rest of the order, marshalled by Hayesy and Si, to get us up to what looked a sub-par 155.

However, the Marsh brothers soon turned the game decisively our way, picking up 6 wickets between them with just 24 on the board. A partnership of 82 between McQuade and Sackfield had nerves jangling, but when Russ held onto a catch, it sparked a collapse, with Rick taking 3 wickets for 1 run to end the game and bring home the points. Good bowling from all the Totts contingent, with Nick (4-27), Si (3-18) and Rick (3-15) sharing the spoils.

The 2s travelled to our old friends Fothergill and Harvey, for some their first visit to the quaint little ground. Totts batted first and were only able to muster 114 all out, thanks in the main to some late order hitting from Iain Gartside who ended with 34 not out including a pair of sixes and 5 fours. Clive (22) was the only other player to reach 20. An experienced F&H side was able to knock the runs off inside 20 overs for the loss of two wickets, with Rehman (2-44) picking up both scalps.

Lots of new photos from the game are available in our GMCL image gallery - thanks to Paul Thomas!
