New Drains at the Meadows - Phase 1

Saturday March 27th 2010 saw a great deal of hard work down at Crompton Meadows as the ground was ripped up for the laying of phase 1 of a new set of drains on the "lines side" of the field. That area has presented a number of waterlogging and drainage issues in recent years, and the committee took the bold step of deciding to get them sorted once and for all as part of the ambitious "1-2-3" plan, which will also see a new beer/barbeque terrace in place soon, and a car park within the next 18 months.

The graft started early with Chris and his digger taking up the earth to the side of the pavilion to create a channel for the new drain outlet to reside. With Dickie P, Kieran, Russ, Doc P, Wayne and Jane, new boy Mike and Dasher all getting stuck in, the pre-season work started in earnest.

Amazingly, havign been down at around 6pm on Sunday, I can report that not only has the ground been successfully covered over, the new drains are having an immediate effect, with no standing water and a considerably drier field than just 24 hours ago - and water continues to gush from the new outlet. This is a tremendous step forward and once again is sign that TSJ is a club moving forward!

Phase 2 will see more drains put in place, with this work expected to take place at the close of the season in September.
