BISH BASH BOSH! 1STS HAMMER FOTHERGILLS WITH SUPERB ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE

One week after a disappointing defeat to Elton Vale, the 1sts reestablished themselves as 1st division contenders by hammering high-flying Fothergill & Harvey by 9 wickets. Having lost the toss and found themselves in the field against a team which regularly racks up big runs, this could have been a long and tough day. Enter Totts at their best. Sharp, alert and accurate in the field, the Totts boys performed admirably to bowl the home side out for just 134. Big Marshy returned the superb figures of 5-50 off 18 straight overs, no mean feat under any circumstances and he was ably backed up by Flash who bowled a hostile and accurate opening spell to pick up 2 wickets, and the Doc, who ended with 3-31.

Highlights of the fielding included a magnificent catch from Abbers, who appeared to have completely misjudged a skier before claiming it easily, and an equally stunning one handed catch from Doc P, not normally renowned for his efforts in the field! There was also some extremely committed and good fielding on the boundary from Marshy, while Kieran, deputising for the absent Clive, didn't let a bye through and took two good catches as keeper.

In the past we've made a right mess of chasing down small totals, so the way in which the CDO and Flash took the opening bowlers apart was a joy. Kieran played with a healthy dose of aggression, to the extent that when the team reached 50, the normally quick-scoring Ash had only reached 12! KC eventually fell for 47; this only served to launch Ash into another gear. One ball was smashed high and handsome over the canal, while he brought the scores level with an almightily huge 6 onto the factory roof. One for the album that! We completed the rout with a remarkable 27 overs remaining to secure a terrific and well deserved 5 points.
