Bury District Under 11s v Wigan District Under 11s

The following match report is courtesy of Paul Belston - Bury Cricket Development Group

On Saturday 13th April Tottington St Johns did a fantastic job in hosting this early season friendly between the best players in Bury and Wigan at this age group.

As Bury had a few players still en route from their morning football matches, Wigan kindly accepted the offer of bowling first - Jack D (not the Jack Dee) this year's captain and Samuel R, guest skipper for the day, opened the batting and followed the instruction of keeping us in a good place to build an innings. Jack was run out on 13 and Samuel bowled for 7. Oliver P came in and played an important innings hitting 3 4s and finishing on 17. Sam C helped to keep the score ticking, scoring 10 - then both Chris R & Matthew H were both unlucky in the nature of their dismissals.

Bury finished on 78 for 6 off their 30 overs.

At the interval the rain came, so early teas were taken (the superb Battenburg was surely from the Great Bake Off Show!). With our regular keeper Lleyton carrying a heel injury from his morning footy exploits Tom P stepped up to the stumps and did a solid job - Owen C & Jack Dee (sorry, 'D') took a wicket each and restricted the younger visitors to 7 for 2 off 5 overs (I think) before the rain came and we retreated to the friendly lounge of Tottington St Johns who I must say a big thank you to on behalf of Bury CDG for allowing the game to happen so early in the season.

I saw snippets that hopefully tell me Bury will put on a good show of themselves this season at District level.

Thanks Wigan for what game we were able to play and thank you Kieran of Tottington St Johns.
